On 28 June 2020 the Hon. Melinda Pavey MP announced a State Government grant of $2.76 million to St Paul’s Catholic Secondary College, for the refurbishment of the current College Hall into a Performing Arts Centre and the construction of a Sports and Fitness Centre.

Kevin Lewis, Principal of St Paul’s College, said that the announcement marked the first stage of a four stage masterplan for St Pauls which is designed to bring the College community world-class teaching and learning facilities.

The first stage will provide a new state of the art sports, fitness and learning facilitate, along with a refurbishment of the current hall to create a dedicated performing arts space.

"Stage two and subsequent stages will provide new Science and Stem learning facilities, visual arts spaces, advanced library and areas for community interaction."

Community to benefit
The broader Macleay and Nambucca Valley communities will benefit from the new facilities.  The College will work cooperatively with the local Council and community to provide opportunities outside of school hours for the facilities to be used by community and other groups.  In recent years the College has fielded many calls and requests for its current hall to host functions as it is one of the larger spaces available in the valleys.

In recent years the College Hall has hosted events including:

  • Kempsey Cannonballs;
  • Macleay Coast Diabetes Group - Diabetes Ball; and the
  • Macleay Debutantes Ball.

These functions are an imporant part of community and St Paul's sees that it has a crucial role in providing for community events.

Kevin Lewis said that communuty is vitally important in regional towns.

"We see ourselves as key contributors to our community."

Kevin said he welcomed input and enquiries from the general public when the facilities are completed.

"With the highway north now operating at full capacity, students are increasingly looking to enrol at St Paul's from Macksville, Nambucca, Bowraville, Valla and surrounds for their secondary education."

Kevin said the College welcomes all students from the Macleay and Nambucca and surrounds to experience excellence at St Paul's Catholic Secondary College.

Planning is well underway and construction of the first stage will commence in 2021.
